Colorful cables by LaCie

Just stumbled on these computer cables by LaCie. At the very least they’d make my cable mess a lot prettier. These kind of cables tend to be extremely boring.

Absolutely amazing footage

Saturday, March 14th, 2009

If you’re a camera of photo geek, you might know of Vincent Laforet. In case not, he’s a pretty cool photographer that’s ventured a bit into video. His latest project is a some surf footage. Shot with a RED ONE with an adapter for EF lenses and  a Canon 5D II. Putting a 500mm/f4 on the RED gives you aprocimatly 1600mm (field of view calculated for 35mm), pretty darn long. Also some parts are shot from a RC helicopter as well. The RED ONE delivers amazing HD footage of up to 120 fps.

Enough. Just watch the damn jawdropping thing: http://vincentlaforet.smugmug.com/gallery/6961015_exAjb/1/447303587_UUCcZ/Large or read surfermags coverage of it. Be sure to check all the videos, the behind the scenes stuff is great as well.

Nissan spoof

Excellent. The response from TBWA\Chiat\Day — Los Angeles is also pretty funny.

Solid state

Samsung made this nice little video (Viral even) which shows how much of a bottleneck a traditional harddrive can be. Thou they do stripe the disks for even more super fast access. (Hardrive performance isn’t my strongest point, but I’m guessing you could achieve similar throughput speeds by striping regular disks as well (but with longer seek times)). 2GB/sec is either way pretty insane.

And the result: you can open all apps in the office suite in .5 second.

Via Cat, who sent me the link for the video.

Using a semicolon is like barbecuing:

Monday, March 9th, 2009

I’m never quite sure I’m doing it correctly.

Copied straight from Blank is Like Blank. Which seems not to be updated anymore, sadly. But I came to think of this one when I used a semi-colon in the last post.

The Problem With Sony, In a Picture

Sony headphones

Pretty much sums it up I guess.

Guess how many designs apple does? It’s two; one regular ear bud and one in-ear monitor (haven’t checked my facts, but I’m pretty sure of this).

Family in the house

Sunday, March 8th, 2009

My family is here hanging out with me (and my girlfriend) for a few days. That’s why things have been a bit quiet lately. But I got some photos up at least (and some more to come, nice ones I hope).

My dad brought me a new camera (buying here is expensive due to the 60% import tax on electronics so I had him bring it from home). A little Ricoh GR-Digital II (Really compact camera with a 28mm equivalent lense). So far I’m really impressed with it, might put a little review together later. But for now, just some pictures.

Challenging old design

Sunday, March 8th, 2009

What if a radiator serves more purposes, and doesn’t look like it always have?

from the core77 blog:

It’s freezing in New York, so go warm up at MAD’s newest show, “Totally Rad.” Rad, as in radiators. Yes, it’s a show about radiators.

It’s curated by Karim Rashid, and the thirty designs are (believe it) surprisingly innovative — one stores towels (ahhhh… warm towels…) and one is a free-standing mini bamboo forest. The show’s about making something functional and unobtrusive into something kind of the opposite: art. Admittedly a touchy subject in design, but one that’s at least fun to look at.

The show (up through May 17) opens the museum’s Design and Innovation gallery, which will focus on short-term trend shows like this one, so stay tuned.
