The name of the new browser is Unite, and contains a platform for web based applications. Some sort of easy to use one-stop-application, you can share files, photos, notes (sort of a guestbook) or access your media library at other places. As long as the computer running Opera is on that is.

- popped my new drive into a SATA enclosure/dock
- ran open /Volumes/Mac\ OS\ X\ Install\ DVD/System/ in a terminal window
- Doubleclicked OSInstall.mpkg
- Followed the installer
Danger Mouse, who did a mash-up of The White Album (The Beatles) and The Black Album (Jay Z); titled The Grey Album. Which did stir up some controversy, and even some electronic civil disobedience when people where protesting against EMIs attempts at stopping the distribution of the album. Arguing that sampling should be considered fair use.
The latest album is called Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse Present: Dark Night of the Soul. A dark multi layered production featuring lots of artists. It’ll be released as the album+photobook with photographs by David Lynch (limited edition, 5000 made) and a poster. Alternatively you can the CD + poster at a lower price (10USD vs. 50USD).
There’s just one detail. The CD is blank. Blank as in nothing on it, it’s just like a regular CD-R. The explanation is in this press release from Dangermouse.
Danger Mouse’s new project Dark Night Of The Soul consists of an album length piece of music by Danger Mouse, Sparklehorse and a host of guest vocalists, along with a collection of original David Lynch photography inspired by and based on the music.
The photographs, which provide a visual narrative for the music, are compiled in a limited edition, hand numbered 100+ page book which will now come with a blank, recordable CD-R. All copies will be clearly labeled: ‘For Legal Reasons, enclosed CD-R contains no music. Use it as you will.’
Due to an ongoing dispute with EMI, Danger Mouse is unable to release the recorded music for Dark Night Of The Soul without fear of being sued by EMI.
Danger Mouse remains hugely proud of Dark Night Of The Soul and hopes that people lucky enough to hear the music, by whatever means, are as excited by it as he is.
In other words. Buy the album and head off to your favourite torrent tracker, music blog etc. to grab the audio files.

]]>At the DMCA 1201 hearings at the Copyright Office at the Library of Congress, representatives from the MPAA showed a video demonstrating how users can videorecord a TV set. They argue this is an acceptable analog alternative to breaking copy protection on a DVD.
The hearings occur every three years to determine whether the Librarian at the Library of Congress (through direction of the Copyright Office) should create exemptions to the anti-circumvention provisions in the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.
In 2006, film and media professors were granted an exemption in order to break copy protection on DVDs so that they could utilize high quality video clips in classroom teaching. Up for consideration during the 2009 exemption hearings is whether this exemption should be extended to apply to faculty teaching in all disciplines, and whether the exemption should apply to students.
Clever media usage for the neglected childrens one as well, with a really good concept (made by JWT).

This is just so clever. It would’ve been a a few years ago as well, but I doubt it would’ve gotten even close the same spread. what’s nice about it is that it also is with fairly simple technology (a movie on a billboard).
]]>I’ve been waiting for it to come online, and now it is. The first version that is, if you want to help out and add something to the movie, you can. Just head over to Open Source Cinema or ccmixter if you want to make things for the soundtrack. Eventually a 2.0 version will be released, refined by others. Really cool.
